RESC members met on March 15 and approved a new dues structure for 2012, reviewed maintenance plans for the spring and endorsed changes in the Club policy on late dues payments. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know for the upcoming season:

Improvements for 2012

This year, we will be doing some much needed – although not entirely glamorous – maintenance on the pool. Structurally, the concrete base of the pool is covered with a plaster coating. This coating generally lasts 3-5 years. Our 6-year-old coating is overdue for replacement. So, this spring, a contractor will remove the old and apply new plaster to the entire pool. As part of the resurfacing, we’ll also be adding a new, durable tile covering to the beach entry. Finally, we’ll be sprucing up the place a bit as we kick off a multi-year landscaping project that will beautify our grounds.

2012 Dues

Members approved the following schedule for 2012:

Family 3 or more family members $ 750

Two-person household No more than 2 in residence $ 545

Single Only 1 in residence $ 300

Senior Special Qualified bondholder over 65 $ 175

Waiver of Annual Dues Maintenance for inactive members $ 160

Caregivers For a caregiver of a member family’s children $90

Creative Fundraising

This year, we are exploring innovative ways to foster greater community support of RESC. Our goal is to build strong, collaborative relationships with local businesses and retailers who would like to help sponsor the continuous improvement our beautiful swim club. We are exploring many alternatives, and invite your input on creative funding and sponsorship options. So, this summer, if you see a shaved ice stand on the blacktop or a sign for a local business hanging on the blacktop fence, you’re seeing the results of this new initiative to provide the highest quality programs and facilities while keeping costs down for our members.

Amendment to RESC Bylaws

Members approved a slight change in RESC’s Bylaws (Section X, Article 11) to clarify our policy regarding late fees for delinquent dues and guest fees. Essentially, the policy charges $25 per month for each month that the member is late in paying dues or for guest fees. Here is the new language:

Section 11. A Member or waiting list family delinquent in payment to the Club of any fees, dues, fines, assessments or charges in excess of thirty (30) days shall be assessed a penalty charge of $25.00 anytime during the first month of a late payment, with increases of late fees by $25.00 each month and suspension of access until fees are addressed.

This change is intended to ensure that all of our members financially support our pool equitably and timely. Also, please note that the bylaws also state that “any member delinquent in the payment of dues or charges for 30 days following receipt of a statement … may be suspended by the Board and refused all rights and privileges of the club.”

Guest Passes and Policy

As a reminder, here is our Guest Policy in a nutshell: Every guest entering the pool must have a guest pass; all guests must sign in with a member and the member must remain at the pool while her/his guest(s) are in attendance; and the member must present a guest pass for each guest. Each guest is limited to 5 visits per season.

You can buy individual guest passes for $5.00 each or a discount guest-pass book (10 passes for $40) at the time of dues payment (use the ordering information on the dues form), or throughout the season by requesting them from Lisa Taylor, RESC Bookkeeper, at rescpool@gmail.com. The front desk will have a small number of guest passes available for unexpected guest-pass needs; members will be billed for those passes. Plan ahead and save money by buying a Guest Pass Discount Booklet!! Guest passes are single-use, but do not expire. Any leftover passes may be used during the next season.

Clean-Up Day

Please join us on Saturday, May 12, 2012, starting at 9:30 a.m., to help spruce up the pool for the coming season! Bring your muscles, enthusiasm, gardening tools, and energy! SSL hours are available for students who help out. The rain date will be Saturday, May 19.

Annual Opening Day Yard Sale

On Saturday, May 26, 2012, we’ll be holding our annual RESC Yard Sale, with proceeds benefiting the Swim and Dive Teams and the pool at large. Please “save your stuff” to donate to this great pool fundraiser! More information to follow as we get closer to Opening Day.

Water Aerobics

Back by popular demand: This summer we will again be offering water aerobics classes at RESC. Look for information on dates and times in future communiques.

Operating Hours

Our teams provide our kids incredibly positive and successful competitive and social experiences in large part because of the involvement of our parent volunteers. Please ask your team representative – David Wright for Swim Team and Paul Roche for Dive Team – how you can join the RESC Deck Crew! It’s easy and social and a lot of fun! You need not be a swim or dive team parent to participate. SSL hours are available to students who volunteer to help out at team meets.

Board of Directors

Here is the RESC Board of Directors for 2012:

Dana Stewart — President

Pat O’Connor – Vice President/Operations

Vernon Johnson – Secretary

Sharon Carbonnell – Treasurer

David Lindsey – Operations/Projects/Web site
